Peniche . Berlengas
When leaving Areias do Seixo, turn left on the main road. Pass Praia de Santa Rita on your left and then Porto Novo in the direction of Maceira. In Maceira, when you come to a roundabout, turn left in the direction of Lourinhã. When you pass Lourinhã, follow the signs for Peniche.
The name given to the fishing town of Peniche means “almost island” and its fine cultural heritage includes the Peniche Fort, which is used for a variety of events according to the season.
In Peniche, the local cuisine is mainly fish and seafood dishes, such as caldeirada (fish stews) and grilled sardines. Peniche also offers fantastic surfing conditions, hosting competitions that attract the world’s very best surfers!
Follow the road that links Peniche to Remédios and Cabo Carvoeiro while you enjoy the stunning landscape, which features strange rock formations sculpted by the sea and wind over centuries. Visitors to Cabo Carvoeiro are able to see Berlenga Island in the distance, which is now a biosphere reserve, the main nesting place for Iberian Peninsula waterfowl and a place that boasts unique flora and fauna. It is also an excellent place for fishing and diving.
